As technology continues to expand and evolve ever more rapidly, how to effectively leverage it in traditional-, blended-, and distance-learning environments is becoming less and less clear. This is particularly true given the practical constraints of limited time and money most programs have trying to implement technology in the language classroom. In this presentation, what is known about the internal and external factors of second language acquisition will be reviewed, along with a new paradigm for thinking about how foreign language learning and teaching should be approached. This new paradigm will then be juxtaposed with the technology tools currently available, illustrating how they can be used to help learners reach their target proficiency goals. Note that the goal of this presentation is not to review the technology tools per se, but to discuss how their features can be leveraged to maximize learning outcomes.
